Presentation of the film The Path to the Mirror. Live event with the participation of Director Katalina Gutierrez and the actress Nicolle Marquez who playedAlejandra Pizarnik.

The Path to the Mirror is an experimental film inspired by the life of Argentinean poet Alejandra Pizarnik and her attempts to use poetry as a catalyst to transform her identity and capture the everyday aspects of her existence that shape her career as a writer and diarist.

This project focuses on the role of poetry, written diaries, and photography in the making of history and memory.

About Katalina Gutierrez

Based in New York, Katalina is a photographer and filmmaker with more than 10 years of shooting experience. Currently working in short films, documentary projects, and photojournalism.

She studied Fine Arts and Sociology with a focus in Painting and Photography in Latin America.  She spent a year in Mexico City studying traditional painting techniques. During that time, she became passionate about capturing the most fascinating imagery from the landscape with her SLR camera. Exposed to the rich Mexican Aztec and Mayan culture, she created a picture book and also collaborated in a multimedia piece about poet and scholar Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz.

Eventually, Katalina traveled to New Orleans, where she received a scholarship to study at the New Orleans Academy of Art. In New Orleans, she captured on camera the mystic subtleties of the French Quarter and the characters that are part of it. One year later, she moved to New York, seeking new elements for her work.

About Nicolle Márquez

Born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Nicolle Márquez is a multidisciplinary artist establishing a body of work as actor, video-artist, and filmmaker. She began her career in Buenos Aires exploring through acrobatics and movement arts. Interest in experimental ways of further exploring storytelling led her to start a dialogue in independent theater and film. Currently, she’s based out of New York City.

Nicolle is a candidate for the M.A Program in Women’s and Gender Studies at the Graduate Center (CUNY) and a graduate of: the M.A Theater Program at Hunter College, the Acting Program at Escuela de Formación Actoral in Buenos Aires, and the Journalism and Mass Communications B.S with concentration in Photography at Florida International University.
